The Full 50 States

Here are the United States of America – and when we managed/or hope to see them:

Alaska – visited in 2018 – maybe the most spectacular place we’ve ever been.

Alabama – visited in 2011 – we loved the Rosa Parks Museum.

Arkansas – visited in 2013 – we learnt all about Bill Clinton…

Arizona – visited in 2012 – we cried at the Grand Canyon, a la Ron Swanson.

California – visited in 2012 and 2017 – we drove our massive hire-car THROUGH a tree and drank a LOT of beer in San Diego.

Colorado – visited in 2018 – only scratched the surface but Denver was a beery delight – returning to see more in 2020!

Connecticut – visited in 2010 and 2014 – pretended we were undergrads at Yale University.

Delaware – visited in 2016 – we loved the beer and beaches!

Florida – visiting in November 2019.

Georgia – visited in 2011 – watched our first ever drive-in movie. Amazing.

Hawaii – visited in 2017 – is it the most special place on earth?

Iowa – visited in 2015, you have to try a tenderloin sandwich from Smitty’s!

Idaho – visited in 2012 and 2018 – we stayed in the World’s Largest Beagle (twice), naturally!

Illinois – visited in 2013 – sampled Deep Dish pizza, nothing was the same again.

Indiana – visited in 2015, amazing beer and food in Indianapolis.

Kansas – hoping to visit in 2020.

Kentucky – visited in 2013 and 2016 – we drank a LOT of tasty tasty bourbon & slept in a jail-cell. Unrelated, we swear.

Louisiana – visited in 2011 – ate and saw alligators, fell in love with NOLA.

Massachusetts – visited in 2010 and 2014 – slurped our first oysters and got engaged.

Maryland – visited in 2010 and 2016 – saw ‘outsider art’ in Baltimore that filled our hearts with joy.

Maine – visited in 2014, we can see why they call it Vacationland.

Michigan – visited in 2013 – we rooted for Detroit and ate the best ever Mac N Cheese.

Minnesota – visited in 2015, saw many many Paul Bunyans!

Missouri – visited in 2013 – journeyed to the top of the Gateway Arch.

Mississippi – visited in 2011 – didn’t sell our soul at the crossroads. Did begin an intense love-affair with the Delta Blues.

Montana – visited in 2012 – we got to hang out with dinosaurs in the Museum of the Rockies.

North Carolina – visited in 2011 and 2016 – we saw NASCAR and loved Asheville.

North Dakota – visited in 2015, its empty, but stunningly beautiful.

Nebraska – visited in 2015, Lincoln and Omaha among the coolest cities we’ve been to.

New Hampshire – visited in September 2014, we got free beer in our hotel in seaside Portsmouth.

New Jersey – visited in 2010 – we didn’t gamble all our life-savings in Atlantic City, this time…

New Mexico – hope to visit in 2020 – this will be State number 50!

Nevada – visited in 2012 and 2017 – shot a gun for the first time and became obsessed with neon in Las Vegas.

New York – visited in 2010 and 2014 – went to Coney Island for a World Famous hot dog and LOVED the High Line.

Ohio – visited in 2013 – slept in an Amish tree-house…

Oklahoma – visited in 2013 – we ate a steak as big as our face.

Oregon – visited in 2012 – felt like we were living in an episode of ‘Portlandia’.

Pennsylvania – visited in 2010 – made our very own Hershey candy bars.

Rhode Island –  visited in September 2014 and loved drinking in Providence’s dive bars.

South Carolina – visited in 2011 – ate She-Crab soup at a table Vanilla Ice had once sat at.

South Dakota – we visited in 2015, Mount Rushmore made our jaws drop.

Tennessee – visited in 2011, 2013 and 2016 – went crazy for Elvis and Johnny and Dolly and dry-rub ribs.

Texas – visited in 2013 – we saw the Grassy Knoll and toured the infamous Book Depository.

Utah – visited in 2012 – gawped at the Monument Valley sunset and then sunrise.

Virginia – visited in 2010 and 2016 – we toured the Pentagon and walked down a LOT of corridors.

Vermont – visited in September 2014 and took in more beautiful trees and covered bridges than we thought possible.

Washington – visited in 2012 – we saw a giant troll under a bridge and took in a ball-game.

Wisconsin – we visited in 2015, Milwaukee and Madison were a blast.

West Virginia – visited in 2016 – and stayed in a gorgeous cabin.

Wyoming – visited in 2012 – saw real life bison and smelt geysers for the first time (eggy!)
